Former CIA director calls homegrown terror threat ‘a witch’s brew’

December 27, 2010

A former director of the CIA described the greater likelihood that terror attacks on U.S. soil would come from an American resident as “a witch’s brew.”

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Michael Hayden, who served under President George W. Bush and stepped down in February 2009, said the “new flavor of threat” was different from “the traditional high-threshold mass casualty attack” that would originate in the al Qaeda stronghold in the tribal regions of Pakistan.

“It’s much more difficult for us to defend against those kinds of attacks,” Hayden said of terror plots originating from franchises in the U.S.

Insulated Beverage Containers to Undergo Extra Security at Airports
Thermoses Could Be Used to Conceal Weapons, TSA on Alert
ABC News
December 24, 2010

Travelers toting thermoses and insulated beverage containers through the nation’s airports today might face heightened security measures, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

“The possible tactics terrorists might use include the concealment of explosives inside insulated beverage containers, so in the coming days, passengers flying within and to the U.S. may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers,” the TSA said in a statement released early today.

According to the TSA, while no specific threats have been reported, agents at airports have been trained to “detect a variety of threats, including the concealment of explosives in common items.

“Passengers traveling with insulated beverage containers can expect to see additional screening of these items using procedures currently in place, including X-ray screening, physical inspection and the use of explosives trace detection technology,” read the statement.

Adm. James Winnefeld, head of the U.S. Northern Command, told The Associated Press that the TSA is “always trying to think ahead” …

Special thanks to Cee for this heads up. And last I checked revolvers don’t take clips and most police don’t use revolvers as their service firearm anyway.

Fully loaded ammunition clip found on Phoenix bound Southwest flight

November 23, 2010

Phoenix, AZ (AP) — A passenger aboard a Southwest Airlines flight found a fully loaded ammunition clip belonging to police officer’s service revolver during a flight from Burbank to Phoenix Tuesday.

Southwest Airlines spokesman Paul Flaningan says that after the passenger found the clip in flight, he handed it over to the flight crew.

The plane landed safely in Phoenix and the passengers on flight 1297 were taken off and rescreened. The plane was also swept and no other weapons were found.

The passenger was met by TSA and Phoenix police at Sky Harbor International Airport and questioned.

Flaningan says the clip apparently was dropped accidentally by a licensed law enforcement officer who declared he had the clip. The law enforcement officer was on a previous flight.

It’s not clear how long the ammunition clip was on the plane or the caliber of the clip.

Flanigan was unable to say if the officer was an Air Marshal or a police officer.

FALSE FLAG ALERT: NORAD opens up military airspace for commercial travel November 23, 2010

This just seems odd to me and I’ve been reading NORAD pages for over a year and half. After all the protesting of the TSA sexual assaults, we know that the government would love an excuse to force everyone thru the body scanners. Many have suggested that the government might false flag a commercial aircraft.

This announcement on the NORAD and NORTHCOM websites comes on the heels of several intercept response capability drills (11/17, 11/16, 9/14, 9/9, 8/26, 8/24, and 8/17) which NORAD has been conducting since August (and had not previously announced such drills prior to August).

There is also an article on the NORAD site about the intercept procedures used by the DoD should an aircraft get outside of its prescribed flight path. Draw your own conclusions. The Lord’s protection to those of you and your loved ones who are flying this weekend.

FAA Works to Ease Delays for Thanksgiving Holiday Travel
Paul Takemoto
Nov. 18, 2010

WASHINGTON – The Federal Aviation Administration is preparing for a busy Thanksgiving holiday travel week by working with the Department of Defense to clear the way for commercial aircraft to fly in airspace normally reserved for the military.

“We want to do everything we can to make it easier for people to travel so they can spend Thanksgiving with their loved ones,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood. “We appreciate the military’s help in making this happen.”

Air traffic controllers may begin routing commercial aircraft through the restricted airspace at 6 a.m. EST on Tuesday, Nov. 23, a day earlier than in previous years. The use of restricted airspace will end at 6 a.m. EST on Monday, Nov. 29. The busiest travel days are expected to be Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday.

Under the agreement, DOD will release airspace off the east coast above 24,000 feet. The added capacity is expected to ease delays during one of the busiest travel periods of the year, saving time and money for passengers and airlines while reducing fuel burn.

The FAA has developed dedicated routes off the east coast to allow airlines to plan their flights through the normally restricted airspace. Normal inland routes will still be available. Weather permitting, the combination of both sets of routes is expected to ease congestion.

“The FAA is using all the tools available to try and give airlines the most efficient routes so air travelers can reach their destinations safely and on time,” said FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt.

“The nation’s air traffic controllers are committed to upholding the safety of the system while working the most efficient airspace system in the world,” said NATCA President Paul Rinaldi. “Over the past year we’ve experienced a movement toward collaboration at all levels of the agency and we look forward to continuing to work together to improve air travel for the flying public.”

The DOD is also allowing commercial flights to use restricted airspace in other parts of the country. These include:

* Airspace over the Gulf of Mexico to ease congestion for commercial aircraft flying between Florida and the Louisiana and Texas areas, as well as points beyond.
* Airspace over Twentynine Palms in California to ease congestion for commercial aircraft flying to and from markets in Southern California.
* Airspace over the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico to allow for more direct routings for aircraft flying over the Southwest.

Air travelers interested in flight and airport status should visit http://www.fly.faa.gov for real-time updates.

U.S. Warns Of ‘Huge’ Cyber Threats
Departments of Defense and Homeland Security are monitoring Stuxnet worm and China, among other critical infrastructure risks.
Elizabeth Montalbano
November 18, 2010

Officials from the Departments of Defense (DoD) and Homeland Security (DHS) this week warned that the prospect of a cyber attack remains imminent even as their agencies continue to monitor threats to U.S. critical infrastructure.

Speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council, Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates said the future threat of a cyber attack is “huge,” while there is a “considerable current threat.”

“That’s just the reality we all face,” he said according to a transcript of his comments.

He said the DoD thinks it has adequately secured the .mil domain but is working to protect U.S. partners in the defense industrial industry so they are shielded.

Gates added that the DoD’s recent agreement with the National Security Agency to work together more closely on cybersecurity also should help the federal government protect its websites from intrusion.

His comments came only a day before a report by a congressional commission unveiled that China Telecom diverted traffic for 18 minutes in April from U.S. government sites — including those from the .mil and .gov domains — away from normal traffic routing and through servers in China.

While the annual report by the U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission said it could not determine what China was doing with the traffic, a report by Northrop Grumman prepared for the same commission last year said that China is likely using the Internet to spy on the U.S. government in preparation for a future cyber attack.

If China isn’t enough to worry about, there is also Stuxnet, a complex computer worm, which was discovered in July when it was believed to be targeting Iranian power plants.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs convened Thursday to discuss how to protect U.S. critical infrastructure in light of Stuxnet.

Testifying before the committee, Sean McGuirk, acting director of the National Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Center at the DHS, said that federal officials have considerable concern about Stuxnet because of the unique nature of the threat it poses.

Stuxnet, unlike other computer worms, is highly complex, containing more than 4,000 functions, which is comparable to the code in some commercial software, he said, according to a transcript of his testimony.

The worm also is difficult to detect because it “uses a variety of previously seen individual cyber attack techniques, tactics, and procedures, automates them, and hides its presence so that the operator and the system have no reason to suspect that any malicious activity is occurring,” McGuirk said.

DHS officials also are concerned that the underlying Stuxnet code could be adapted to target a broad range of control systems — such as the electricity grid and power plants — in “any number of critical infrastructure sectors,” he added.

To combat Stuxnet, the DHS has been analyzing and reporting on the worm since its detection and has briefed dozens of government and industry organizations, as well as advised the control systems industry about how to detect and mitigate an attack.

Claim: Failed Al Qaeda Plot Involving Sewing Bombs Inside Dogs
Fox News
November 9, 2010

Al Qaeda operatives in Iraq attempted to unleash terror in the skies by deploying a pair of kamikaze canines on a U.S.-bound airplane, a French newspaper reports.

The canine-centered plot failed because the bombs were so poorly stitched inside the dogs that they died, Paris daily Le Figaro reports.

“This case illustrates the determination of Al Qaeda militants, who are trying to circumvent terrorism controls by any means,” French criminologist and aviation expert Christophe Naudin told the newspaper.

The plot unfolded roughly two years ago, when Al Qaeda militants grabbed two stray dogs off the street and surgically implanted powerful explosives and detonators in each. The dog were then taken a Baghdad airport in kennel carriers, destined for a flight to the U.S., the newspaper reports.

FALSE FLAG REPORT: Did Obama Order British Authorities To Find Non-Existent Ink Bomb? November 2, 2010

We’ve found some really weird things when trying to research this story …

For instance, we knew that the press had originally reported that the toner cartridge “threat” was fake, so we did a search for those stories

A very interesting thing happens when you go to FreeRepublic.com’s “Terror ‘Threat’: No Explosives on Philly, Newark, UK Planes…’Manipulated” Toner Cartridge” page. Clearly this page was created when the press was still reporting that the toner cartridge contained no explosives.

But when you click on the UPDATE link:

UPDATE: No Explosives on Planes in Philly, Newark…

You can watch for yourself as the page automatically redirects to a story which states that the toner cartridge had explosives in the toner cartridge:

Did Obama Order British Authorities To Find Non-Existent Ink Bomb?
Paul Joseph Watson
November 1, 2010

After having examined the suspicious ink toner device for six hours and found it to be a dud, bomb experts at East Midlands Airport only reversed their decision after being ordered to re-inspect the package by US authorities following President Obama’s Friday afternoon speech in which he claimed that the devices did in fact contain explosives.

This telling contradiction in the timeline of the cargo bomb plot fiasco proves that the story was being hyped and manipulated from the very early stages.

Obama was informed of the plot at 10:35PM eastern Thursday night, despite the fact that the East Midlands package was only first discovered roughly at the exact same time – 3:30am on Friday morning UK time. British Prime Minister David Cameron was kept firmly out of the loop – he was not informed until Friday afternoon.

How did Obama and his terror chief John Brennan know that the East Midlands package was an explosive device virtually at the same time bomb experts had only just discovered the device at East Midlands Airport and before they had even had the chance to analyze it?

A spokesman from the Metropolitan Police stated: “Following initial examination explosives officers were satisfied that the package presented no immediate danger.”

Authorities at East Midlands only reversed their earlier assessment after “(US) authorities urged the British to look again, a US official said,” reports the Nottingham Post.

So is it credible that bomb professionals whose expertise and training is focused around detecting explosives, failed to do so after a six hour sweep, only to change their minds after being ordered to look again by the US government?

What did Obama know and when did he know it? The timeline strongly indicates that US terror authorities knew about the East Midlands device before East Midlands bomb experts had even discovered it.

Police and bomb experts at East Midlands have refused to comment on the confusion.

In addition, it has come to light that the man responsible for tipping off Saudi authorities to the imminent plot, who subsequently informed US authorities, was Jabir al-Fayf, suspected by Yemen of being a double agent working for the Saudis.

Al-Fayf had infiltrated the Al-Qaeda group in Yemen who were behind the plot. Going on past evidence of how almost every terror scare was contrived with the aid of federal agents or their Al-Qaeda informants provocateuring the terror group into action, Al-Fayf was probably responsible for grooming the patsies, whose mental incompetence, as again is the case in most instances, prevented them from building sophisticated enough bombs to be successful.

However, despite the fact that authorities not only in the UK but also in the cases of the Newark and Pittsburgh packages, initially gave the “all clear,” according to CNN, Obama, having already been informed of the plot the night before, simply contradicted the very experts who had dismissed the devices as duds, claiming the packages contained explosives. This soon mushroomed into a media scaremongering blitz about powerful explosives that could have knocked dozens of planes out of the sky.

The contrived series of events has been swiftly exploited as a means of intensifying US attacks on Yemen, which was instantly blamed as the source of the alleged attack, despite a female student who was arrested as the prime culprit later being released after it became clear she was the victim of a “set-up,” according to her lawyer.

Two Wall Street Journal articles today make it plain that the Obama administration will use the incident to justify further military incursions into Yemen while beefing the CIA’s power to control secret “elite U.S. hunter-killer teams” that operate in foreign countries.

In a report entitled Package Bombs Help U.S. Defense in Cleric Case, the WSJ discusses how the alleged role of American cleric Anwar al Awlaki in the plot, who as we have documented is a CIA stooge who met with Pentagon officials shortly after 9/11 despite being fingered as the spiritual guru of the very hijackers who slammed Flight 77 into the Pentagon, will aid the US in its plans to launch military operations in Yemen.

In another report entitled Yemen Covert Role Pushed – Foiled Bomb Plot Heightens Talk of Putting Elite U.S. Squads in CIA Hands, Julian E. Barnes and Adam Entous explain how the plot – supposedly masterminded by someone on the CIA payroll – will enable the Obama administration to shift “more operational control to the CIA” in its mission to violate the sovereignty of more nations in the name of the war on terror.

Air Force: Teams working to isolate ICBM glitch
Associated Press
October 30, 2010

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — Work has begun to try to replicate an electronics glitch and determine what disrupted communication between 50 nuclear missiles and a launch control center at F.E. Warren Air Force Base, a U.S. Air Force official said Wednesday.

Teams from F.E. Warren and Hill Air Force Base in Utah think they’ve isolated the faulty part where the problem occurred, said Lt. Col. John Thomas, spokesman for the U.S. Air Force Global Strike Command.

“It could be the part, it could be the way that it was installed, it could be the way that it was queried,” Thomas said.

The incident early Saturday affected 50 Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles based out of Cheyenne. The equipment failure lasted less than an hour and the Air Force said it never lost the ability to launch the missiles.

The suspected problem part is small enough to hold in your hand, Thomas said.

“That’s where our primary weight of effort is. But we are also not ruling anything out and we are looking at anything that may have contributed to it,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Air Force has implemented procedures so it can address the problem more rapidly should it occur again before a permanent fix can be made, he said.

Air Force officials said there was no sign of foul play.

F.E. Warren oversees 150 ICBMs in silos scattered around the prairie. ICBMs at bases in Montana and North Dakota weren’t affected.

The communications failure is the latest in a series of nuclear mishaps that have plagued the Air Force in recent years.

In 2008, the Pentagon disclosed the mistaken shipment to Taiwan of four electrical fuses for warheads. The fuses originated at F.E. Warren but the mix–up apparently happened after the parts were shipped to Utah.

In 2007, a B–52 bomber was mistakenly armed with six nuclear–tipped cruise missiles and flown from Minot Air Force Base, N.D., to Barksdale Air Force Base, La. The pilot and crew were unaware at the time that they were carrying nuclear weapons.

An internal report asserted that slippage in the Air Force’s nuclear standards was a problem that has been identified but not effectively addressed for more than a decade. Those findings led to Defense Secretary Robert Gates’ decision to fire Air Force Secretary Michael Wynne and Gen. Michael Moseley, the Air Force chief of staff.

FALSE FLAG ALERT: Obama Issues Fake Terror Alert On Eve Of Elections October 31, 2010

Obama Issues Fake Terror Alert On Eve Of Elections
Paul Joseph Watson
October 29, 2010

As we predicted on four separate occasions would happen, the Obama White House has deliberately contrived a fake terror scare on the eve of the mid-term elections in an effort to subdue the rampaging political appetite for anti-big government candidates that threatens to sweep aside establishment incumbents next week.

Despite the fact that the so-called suspicious package discovered on a flight in the United Kingdom tested negative for any explosive material, President Obama, after being informed of the apparent “threat” yesterday, “directed U.S. intelligence and law enforcement agencies, and the Department of Homeland Security” to launch a full-scale security alert, according to a White House press release, which in turn was helpfully elevated to levels of hysteria by the corporate media today.

The scaremongering was focused around two UPS planes that landed at Philadelphia International Airport and another at Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey, but just like the incident in the UK, both were soon given the “all clear,” reports CNN, and no bombs were found.

Despite the fact that no explosives at all were found on any of the planes, the establishment media is still feverishly running with the story that this was a “mail bomb” plot targeting the United States and that it was run out of Yemen, which coincidentally is also the US Military-Industrial Complex’s number one target for attack.

Quite how a “mail bomb plot” can succeed without any actual bombs is something the hysterical press has failed to properly explain. Like every other single major terror scare targeting the United States that we have covered, this smacks of an engineered political ploy.

As the video at the top of this article highlights, the terror scare also arrives just days after British Airways Chairman Martin Broughton attacked US authorities for the continuation of “completely redundant” airport security checks. It also comes amidst an increasing backlash against naked body scanners.

Just as former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge admitted that fake terror alerts were issued by the Bush administration for political gain, Obama is taking a leaf out of the Neo-Con’s playbook – and his timing couldn’t be better – just four days before the mid-term elections on Super Tuesday.

Over the last few months, on four separate occasions, we warned that the Obama White House would pull a terror stunt on the eve of the election in an effort to corral an increasingly resentful and angry electorate into acquiescence. As we reported back in July, former Clinton advisor Robert Shapiro wrote that Obama was relying on an October surprise in the form of a terror scare to rescue his presidency.

“The bottom line here is that Americans don’t believe in President Obama’s leadership,” wrote Shapiro, adding, “He has to find some way between now and November of demonstrating that he is a leader who can command confidence and, short of a 9/11 event or an Oklahoma City bombing, I can’t think of how he could do that.”

Last month we reported on how the Obama administration’s threat that a “small scale terror attack” was on the cards was just another political ploy to instill fear within Americans. In another subsequent article we again highlighted the probability of the government contriving a terror scare for political grist.

We repeated our warning about Obama seeking to exploit terror earlier this month in the aftermath of the supposed airport lobby bombing plot, which again turned out to be nothing but hot air.

We’d be loathe to forget that the media and the government have been totally discredited over and over again by their complicity in issuing phony terror alerts designed to manipulate elections and frighten the public into slavish obedience, accepting naked body scanners, an intensification of the police state and any other indignity in the name of the government protecting them from terrorists like Christmas Day bomber Farouk Abdulmutallab, who was allowed to board the airliner he tried to attack by order of the US State Department.

Within hours of this new terror scare breaking every indication, most notably the fact that Obama was informed last night and decided to go ahead with a full security alert despite the UK package being a dud, screams out that this is a contrived political stunt designed to sway the many key undecided voters in anticipation of next week’s mid-terms.

FALSE FLAG ALERT: Corporate Media On High Alert Over “Manipulated” Toner Cartridge On UK Plane October 31, 2010

Corporate Media On High Alert Over “Manipulated” Toner Cartridge On UK Plane
Kurt Nimmo
October 29, 2010

Update: Harmless toner cartridges with white powder (?) and wires were reportedly headed to Chicago synagogues. “FBI spokesman Ross Rice added that while there are no identifiable or specific threats to the Chicago area, all churches, synagogues and mosques in the area are being warned to be vigilant for unsolicited or unexpected packages, especially those originating from overseas locations,” CBS News in Chicago reports. “Authorities say the UPS plane was headed to Chicago from Yemen, and had on-board an ink toner cartridge that looked like it had been converted into a bomb. The plane was stopped in the the U.K. Thursday night, CNN reported.”

Officialdom and authorities jacked up the scary rhetoric this morning in response to a “manipulated” toner cartridge found on a plane in the United Kingdom that tested negative for the presence of explosive material.

“Airports in some of the United States were on high alert Friday after investigators found a suspicious package on a plane in the United Kingdom the night before, a law enforcement source with detailed knowledge of the investigation said,” reports CNN.

The FBI has added to the pre-election hysteria about scary men donning turbans by stating that they were inspecting “possible suspicious packages on three jets that flew in from Europe” to Philadelphia and New Jersey’s Newark airport, according to Bloomberg. “Out of an abundance of caution the planes were moved to a remote location where they are being met by law enforcement officials and swept,” the TSA said in a statement.

A UPS truck in Brooklyn was also stopped and checked. “Because these incidents are still being investigated, we don’t have any further details.”a UPS statement said.

The suspicious package that is not explosive or apparently threatening but has touched off a corporate media news blitz follows a barrage of absurd government propaganda about impending terror attacks.

In early October, U.S. officialdom told “Americans to be vigilant” over the prospect of an unsubstantiated terror attack. The exaggerated travel warning was based on information described as intelligence that allegedly pointed to al-Qaeda cave dwellers planning attacks throughout Europe. No specific locations or countries were identified as targets. In early October, authorities warned there would be a Mumbai-style attack in Europe.

Prior to the latest scaremongering, Noman Benotman, a Libyan described as a former trainer at an Afghanistan terrorist camp originally established by the CIA, ISI and Saudi intelligence, said a Mumbai-style attack in Britain, France or Germany is still possible. “I have information that I consider to be reliable, according to which Al-Qaeda in North Waziristan is training how to carry out multiple parallel hostage taking in order to enforce the release of a prisoner,” Benotman told the German magazine Speigel.

On Thursday, the arrest of a naturalized U.S. citizen born in Pakistan, Farooque Ahmed, prompted the NYPD to issue a warning to law enforcement reportedly highlighting the desire of violent extremists riled up by the FBI to target the subway system in New York City, according to Fox. “New York City remains a major target for terrorist groups,” states the NYPD SHIELD Terrorism Assessment.

Earlier in the week, the dead Osama bin Laden supposedly threatened French citizens with kidnappings and death for the horrible crime of banning full-face Islamic veils for women and the country’s presence in Afghanistan. “The equation is very clear and simple: as you kill, you will be killed; as you take others hostages, you will be taken hostages; as you waste our security we will… waste your security,” said the dead nemesis in a two minute recording.

The latest carnival of absurd events present more evidence the government is conditioning us to accept back-to-back non-terror events as an excuse to compromise our civil liberties, accept intrusive technology such as dangerous naked body scanners, and get acclimated to troops on the streets.
