SAN LUIS OBISPO, California — As if it weren’t bad enough that San Luis Obispo County Sheriff candidate elect, Ian Parkinson, and his former opponent, Joe Cortez, openly admitted on public access TV during the 2010 General Election campaign that the county’s law enforcement officers routinely violate the due process rights of the people whom they arrest for the sake of convenience (see California Penal Code Section 849(a)):

SCMLA Questions SLO County Sheriff’s Candidates 9/29/10

On December 1, 2010, the City of San Luis Obispo Police Department (SLOPD) began publishing the full name and mugshot of each and every person who was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) on SLOPD’s Facebook account:

Not one of these people have been convicted of any crime and yet their photographs and real names are now publicly available on Facebook, which makes it ridiculously easy to find additional personal information on those who have been arrested and to permanently damage their reputations, not to mention that it opens the City of San Luis Obispo up to possible defamation suits:

In yet another Orwellian turn of the screw, SLOPD announced on November 30, 2010 that law enforcement officers would be “contacting drivers with good driving habits” over the holidays in order to “say thanks for making our streets a lot safer.” According to SLOPD, the “thank you” would be in the form of a certificate for a “free holiday turkey” from Food-4-Less Supermarket.

So, let’s see if we understand this. We are now living in a Nanny/Police State where:

Good drivers get the turkey award?

And (alleged) bad drivers get their name in lights?

SoCal Martial Law Alerts

Most people in the patriot community thought that there would be a spectacularly-defining moment (like 9/11, except much worse) and that THEN they would know FOR SURE that it was time to head for the hills.

But it’s not playing out like that.

What we have here is a creeping 1984 / Stasi state — just like creeping crud — being implemented slow and easy so that you’ll go along with it nice and easy (and so that the sleepyheads will stay in denial).

Many of you joined SoCal Martial Law Alerts so that you would know when martial law was declared.

Well, it’s here.

Being implemented “precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.” (That’s Isaiah 28:13 for those of you who want to go and read it in context.)

Now that you know where we are, what are YOU going to DO about it?

Things are not bad enough to head for the hills (yet). By the time it gets to that point, it will be too late. You will already be acclimated to it (and so will everyone else) and will willingly go along with it (just like everyone else).

If you’re the head-for-the-hills type, then you may as well go now, because if you continue to wait for THE REALLY BIG EVENT, then, by the time THAT happens, your way of escape may already be cut off.

If you’re a stand-and-fight type, then you should ALREADY be fighting and, right now, it’s still an infowar. Shout from the rooftops. Tell family, friends, neighbors, coworkers, church members the truth about what’s happening. Non-violent resistance. Ghandi-style civil disobedience. We have the tools from history. Let’s use them.

Else be led like sheep to the slaughter.

A former director of the CIA described the greater likelihood that terror attacks on U.S. soil would come from an American resident as “a witch’s brew.”

Appearing on CNN’s “State of the Union,” Michael Hayden, who served under President George W. Bush and stepped down in February 2009, said the “new flavor of threat” was different from “the traditional high-threshold mass casualty attack” that would originate in the al Qaeda stronghold in the tribal regions of Pakistan.

“It’s much more difficult for us to defend against those kinds of attacks,” Hayden said of terror plots originating from franchises in the U.S.

Travelers toting thermoses and insulated beverage containers through the nation’s airports today might face heightened security measures, according to the Transportation Security Administration.

“The possible tactics terrorists might use include the concealment of explosives inside insulated beverage containers, so in the coming days, passengers flying within and to the U.S. may notice additional security measures related to insulated beverage containers,” the TSA said in a statement released early today.

According to the TSA, while no specific threats have been reported, agents at airports have been trained to “detect a variety of threats, including the concealment of explosives in common items.

“Passengers traveling with insulated beverage containers can expect to see additional screening of these items using procedures currently in place, including X-ray screening, physical inspection and the use of explosives trace detection technology,” read the statement.

Adm. James Winnefeld, head of the U.S. Northern Command, told The Associated Press that the TSA is “always trying to think ahead” …

Russia Crashes U.S. Drill With Sub-Hunting Planes

The United States and Japan were all set for a day of joint naval practice yesterday when two very uninvited and disruptive guests showed up: Russian sub-hunting planes.

The U.S. and Japanese navies were in the Sea of Japan for their biennial Keen Sword exercises in the largest U.S.-Japan defense drill to date when two Il-38 Anti-Submarine Warfare planes buzzed the assembled warships, forcing the U.S. to scramble F-15s to intercept them. The exercise was briefly postponed in order to prevent the Russian sub-hunters from snooping on the naval operations.

Russia defended its actions, saying the planes were operating legally in international waters. It’s nonetheless annoying for the U.S. and Japan — and that may be the point.

The U.S. has been beefing up military ties with East Asian partners in the wake of increasing North Korean aggression, sending the U.S.S. George Washington to drill with South Korea and inviting South Korean officers on hand to observe Keen Sword. So its fairly clear that the exercise isn’t aimed at intimidating Russia,though it dates to the cold war.

But the Russians might not exactly see it that way. Over the last month, Russian and Japanese politicians have made dueling visits to islands claimed by both countries. Russia’s interruption of the exercise was likely intended as a reminder that it still feels a bit strongly about its claims to the disputed islands.

Trolling rivals with military aircraft has been a favorite tactic for Russia to remind folks its still a force to be reckoned with, despite its economic troubles during the 1990s. In recent years, it has buzzed U.S. aircraft carriers and the borders of its NATO rivals with bombers and fighter jets. Russia even went for a retro Cuban missile crisis effect by threatening to send Tu-160 supersonic bombers to Cuba if the United States didn’t drop its plans for a missile shield in Eastern Europe.

But it seems like everybody wants to show their muscles in seas of East Asia these days, from China, to the U.S. to North Korea and now Russia and Japan. With all the activity, the waters in the region look they’re in danger of getting pretty warm soon.

New ATM glitch hits top bank
Hundreds queue for ‘extra’ cash after more BoI technical problems

Hundreds queued at Bank of Ireland (BoI) ATMs around the country last night after the machines started dispensing large amounts of cash which people did not have in their accounts.

BoI spokeswoman Mary Brennan confirmed people had been able to withdraw more money than they had in their accounts. She warned the customers would be “liable” for the extra cash they took out.

But Ms Brennan said the bank categorically denied that people received more money than they had requested from machines.

“When our systems go offline as they did, we can’t see people’s balances and they can’t see their balance so we take a decision to make a certain amount of cash available to customers. So some customers were able to obtain money from the ATM that they did not have in their account,” she said.

Ms Brennan continued, “We took a decision to allow some flexibility to our customers . . . it has been exploited by a minority of people.” A system in place for when there is a technical failure means some people can get money as they have been pre-approved by the bank, even if there is no cash in their account, she said.

She said customers would be “liable” for the extra cash they had taken out but added that BoI hadn’t decided how it would go about recovering its money.

Reports first spread on social-network site Twitter and soon banks had long queues outside ATMs in several locations.

A spokesperson had initially dismissed the reports.

In Limerick, for example, one man with just €20 in his account was able to withdraw €200.

Earlier, the bank was forced to apologise to its one million customers after a separate technical problem meant they were unable to withdraw cash on their ATM cards. The bank rushed to reassure customers the matter was only a technical one. There was no suggestion of any funding issues, it insisted.

Earlier a spokesman for the bank said its electronic payments systems were knocked out at 9.20am, with the bank struggling throughout the day to rectify the breakdown.

The fault meant ATMs were not working and customers were unable to make online transactions. The malfunction only affected BoI debit and ATM cardholders. People with cards issued by other banks were able to withdraw cash from the 1,000 BoI ATM machines countrywide. However, all transactions will be taken from their accounts.

Some customers reported being unable to withdraw any cash or use their Laser debit cards to make purchases. However, a bank spokeswoman said customers were able to withdraw some cash from ATMs, although the amount was restricted. BoI credit cards were working, the bank said.

It suggested that customers could use their credit cards to withdraw cash, but would not commit to waiving the high charges on credit-card withdrawals. In a statement, the bank confirmed that “an unforeseen technical issue” affected its in-branch and online banking systems.

“All branches are open and operating as normal but with a temporary restricted cash service. All ATMs are operating normally but with a restricted cash service for BoI cardholders,” the bank said.

In October last year, BoI admitted it had double-charged its customers for the second month in a row after thousands were mistakenly overcharged on Laser card transactions.
